In the Amidah prayer we pray “about the righteous and the Chassidim”…. as well as “for the righteous Gerim/Converts… please be merciful”!!! After all, Gerim stir up the mercy of the Holy One, blessed be He.And we ask that God include our portion with theirs, that is, our wages will be like those Gerim. It’s amazing if you take a look and think about how the righteous and Hassidim have said this over the generations.
As opposed to the attitude toward converts in our time, which seems to cause and provoke cruelty in certain circles!Specifically for those who pray for mercy, and compare those Gerimto the righteous three times a day and twice in two repetitions, and seek to arouse mercy from HaShem, have forgottenthe warnings of the Torah regarding the converts, and rise up and oppose conversion with all vigor! It seems almost like a new religion, to be cruel in our generation, and to abandon the Jewish people rushing to intermarriage, andleavetheir descendants outside the camp of Israel, instead of seeing them as the seed of Israel, and simply accepting them and converting them. The prophet Isaiahin the beginning ofchapter 44prophesied: “So said the Lord your Maker, and He Who formed you from the womb shall aid you. Fear not, My servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen.
As I will pour water on the thirsty and running water on dry land, I will pour My spirit on your seed and My blessing on your offspring. And they shall sprout among the grass like willows on rivulets of water. This one shall say, “I am the Lord’s,” and this one shall call himself by the name of Jacob, and this one shall write [with] his hand, “To the Lord,” and adopt the name Israel.”The current verse should berelevantly interpretedas saying that joining Judaism and the faith of Israel in every generation had a different form, starting withone sayingto God: “I am like Abrahamour forefather, who himself knew his Creator …”And to this day that the seed of Israel isshouting, “I am a Jew”, meaning, that he shall be called by Israel. And as theAdmor-Rebbe Tzadok HaKohen of Lublin wrote in Tzedekat HaTzadik page 54 overtwo hundred years ago, because this is the essence of Judaism, and in the name of Israel he will be called. Andeven if a person has nothing left ofthe religion, thisis enough.Especially those who come to join the Jewish people, Jewish nationalism, circumcision, to enter the covenant of Avraham Avinu, and to behave as most Jews do (keeping the Jewish tradition),especially when they wish to settle in the Land of Israel, since overtime they will become fully integrated into the Jewish people.
Maimonides wrote: “The Torah promised that Israel would repent at the end of their exile (the same repentanceis the return to Zion) and immediately they would be redeemed.”It is because of ourmercytowards the Gerim, to draw them near, from Jewish descendants to the seed of Israel, from the Bnei Anusimtoall those whose heart yearns to be part of the Jewish people honestly and innocently, to receive them and convert them, to enable their Aliya to the land of Israel, that we will also receive the mercy of the creator forthe completion of our redemption and the redemption of our souls, to fulfill the verse “And He will give you rest from all your enemies surrounding you, and you will dwell securely.”
